THE AVENGERS is probably the biggest film event of the year (well, of 2012). It truly is the definition of event cinema, and is the culmination of a lot of hard work by a lot of filmmakers. It’s almost hard to believe that it is really happening, especially to a Marvel fanatic like myself.
Now it feels even more real, as the film now has a start date.
February is when filming will officially begin, with Joss Whedon in the director’s chair (this is a sentence I never thought I’d write). All of our favorite heroes will be in tow, including Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.
It is kind of surprising to see they are rolling on the film so far before THOR or CAPTAIN AMERICA are released, as they would be great indicators on if there is more mainstream appeal in THE AVENGERS. But who are we kidding, they will make money, and drain my wallet with my countless repeat viewings. Plus one Marvel, minus one my bank account.
