PINEAPPLE EXPRESS was a really entertaining ride and it proved that Seth Rogen is a overly adequate comedic action star. Not only did the film catch on with my friends and I, it also went on to make $87 million at the box office, a hefty little gain considering it was budgeted at $27 million. According to Evan Goldberg, co-writer of the film, a sequel isn’t too far from possible.
Check out what Goldberg had to say after the jump!
“Pineapple 2′ is something that we pressured the studio to do for a while, and they require no pressure. Everybody wants to do it, it’s just we all have the chance after the success of those movies to do whatever they want, and everybody took that chance, and they made ‘Your Highness’ and Judd went and made [“Funny People”] and we went and made stuff. I would not be surprised if we all got back and made ‘Pineapple 2.’
We have the whole story planned out. But I don’t know, it’s still a toss up. Because that movie I’m very proud of, I don’t want to tamper with it. It kind of begs a sequel, but I don’t know. ‘Pineapple ‘2 is the most likely [Judd Apatow-produced project] with us all. We kind of made the classic mistake of people who had a successful film: we then booked everything we could because we thought it’d be our only chance. It still could be our only chance, but man are we booked.”
I don’t find it too hard to believe that the general public would be interested in revisiting these characters again after the events of the first film. Especially Danny McBride’s character Red, who had a less than pleasant ending.
When asked about the likelihood of a sequel to Goldberg’s other flick, SUPERBAD, he put it very simply:
“Never, at any juncture in the history of life, have we considered ‘Superbad 2.”
Very well put, and blunt at that. As much as we all love SUPERBAD, I don’t think any of us want to see a sequel. Would you guys be interested in seeing PINEAPPLE EXPRESS 2, or are you more sad about SUPERBAD 2?

I can't wait for this movie to come because I laughed my ass off during the first one.
