ROBOCOP reboot has been disassembled

We’ve been anticipating Darren Aronofsky’s ROBOCOP reboot for quite some time now, but its off-and-on nature has been slightly unnerving. Although the reboot sounded pretty unnecessary, the idea of Aronofsky taking the director’s chair made the project incredibly intriguing. What would his take on it be like?

From the sounds of it, we’ll never know. Reports are now emerging that the project is officially and completely dead.

With all of MGM’s financial woes, the ROBOCOP reboot was put on hold until MGM could figure out financing. Since that situation hasn’t improved in the least, the project has stayed in limbo. But now, coupled with Aronofsky’s loss of interest in the project, it seems ROBOCOP is headed to the junkyard.

I still have a hunch that ROBOCOP will make it to the big screen again some day, but as for now it might be best he lays low for a little bit. Hopefully the next time someone tries to bring him to the big screen, they’ll get a director equally as interesting as Aronofsky behind the camera.

Speaking of reboots, don’t forget to check out episode 17 of our podcast, Reboot Benders!
