Karl Urban to don the helmet in the new JUDGE DREDD?

We’ve known for a little bit that JUDGE DREDD was going to be hitting the big screen again in a much darker, grittier, and true to the comic film, as opposed to the infamous 1995 DREDD film. Although not much is known about the film other than it’s tone, we might have learned who will be donning the helmet and badge in the new film.

Check out the announcement, after the break.

Word is that Karl Urban, who is now best known for playing Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the most recent STAR TREK film, will star as the Judge in the new film. Supposedly the filmmakers minds are made up, and they will offer the role to Urban- which hopefully he accepts.

The idea of Urban in the film is fascinating. They seem to be going with someone who actually fits the role, not just big name recognition. If he gets cast in the role, then maybe the ill feelings of Stallone as Dredd can be laid to rest.
