Edgar Wright's ANT-MAN is still on

Ant Man Edgar Wright

Ever since rumblings first started surfacing of an Edgar Wright adaptation of ANT-MAN, my mind has been reeling with the possibilities. Not only does ANT-MAN seem like a really great fit for Wright, but a more comedic take on the character is highly intriguing due to some of the darker material related to character’s alter ego, Henry Pym.

Though it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the project, good ol’ Edgar was nice enough to give us a little update.

“I haven’t actually started the second draft yet–I’m not going to be able to until this film [Scott Pilgrim] is out–but what we wrote for the first draft, and what Marvel really liked, is that it’s funny, but it’s a genre film. It’s about the level of comedy that Iron Man has. The idea is to make a high-concept genre film where it’s within another genre. His suit and its power is the big gadget and it takes place in the real world. I just wanted to do something that was slightly different than the superhero origin film. I felt that between that and the various mad scientist, crazy doctor films that we’ve all seen, this would be a way into an origin that was slightly different. I’m not really a multi-tasker–I haven’t done anything since Marvel liked our first draft.”

So there you have it. It’s coming, slowly but surely.

The only potential downside to the film is that I really would like to see another HOT FUZZ, SHAUN OF THE DEAD style film come out of him. But who’s to say he can’t slip one in before he actually shoots on ANT-MAN?

Either way, we have this freaking incredible SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD international trailer to keep us at bay until we get our next Edgar Wright fix.
