A while back we were hit with Entourage news that was somewhat surprising, but at the same time made complete sense. Producer Mark Wahlberg came out and said that the team behind the HBO series was interested in making two more seasons of the show, then cap it all off with a movie.
We know that this sort of plan works for HBO – does SEX AND THE CITY ring a $400 million bell? Now Wahlberg has come out and said what direction the film might go, and it seems…familiar. When speaking about the film with MTV News, Wahlberg had this to say:
“In the trailer, you see [Ari and his associate, Lloyd] waking up together in Vegas not knowing what happened. It would be pretty cool!…I just think we can make a great movie. I think people always wanted [it] and have complained that the episodes are too short — they’ve always wanted more. I think we’re going to do it. We just have to end strong, and this season is, by far, the best season so far.”
I’m a devout fan of the series, and have been since the first season originally aired, but this just seems like the complete wrong way to take this film. Not only does the Ari and Lloyd situation not seem very funny, but it sounds exactly like THE HANGOVER. Not to mention that by the time the ENTOURAGE movie will hit screens THE HANGOVER 2 will already be out. It just seems like a very uncreative way to take a series that is better than that.
At the same time, there’s no contention about the episodes being too short. That is a complaint I say at the end of every single episode, similar complaints have voiced to me by others, too. I’d really like to see this movie happen, but I genuinely hope they go back to the think tank with this one.
