McG has been in the producer game for a pretty good while now, although most of it has been television. He has produced a movie or two, but that is much less than the sheer mass of television work he has done. But it seems he wants to jump back into the movie producing business, as he has optioned the book THE DUFF.
THE DUFF is actually an acronym for Designated Ugly Fat Friend, one that I am very glad I had never heard until today (it’s really mean!). THE DUFF is based off a novel by Kody Keplinger, a 20-year-old first time author. It is the story of a high school student who puts aside her hate for the school hottie and builds an enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
The widespread interest with this film is going to be heavily based on how comedic this film ends up being. It could easily be too dramatic, or it could be a full-blown chick flick, either one is possible. As for now, I’m in because McG did produce gold with The OC, so why can’t he bring that same magic to this project?
