Many people have had some…not too kind thoughts on the recent trend of bringing back older animated properties and giving them the big screen treatment. It all started with ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS, a film that went on to be a major financial success, much to the chagrin of moviegoers everywhere. Now we have another forgotten property that will hit the big screen, and he’s a little squeak that packs a punch.
MIGHTY MOUSE will finally be making his way to the big screen after being in development hell for a very long time. There have been previous scripts (the most famous was written by the writers of JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH), but now they want fresh blood on the flick. No news yet as to what animation style they’ll take, although a live-action and CG hybrid is expected. The film will be released by Nickelodeon Films.
The producers of these films must have some sort of mind-reading machine (damn you, Edward Nigma), because they keep picking properties that were a big part of my childhood. At this point, we should just hope this film is more ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS, and less UNDERDOG. I wonder if my Grandma still has the MIGHTY MOUSE tapes I watched as a kid.
