Joss Whedon on short list to direct THE AVENGERS?

I know, I know. What a day for news like this to come out, it’s an awful shame. Finding articles to write about today is really difficult with all the fake stories out there and it wouldn’t be surprising for THE AVENGERS to be the target of April Fool’s jokes. But IESB is claiming that Joss Whedon is on the short list to direct Marvel’s THE AVENGERS, and assuring that this news is not a joke.

This won’t be our first post discussing the directors short list for this film, so we know that it does in fact exist. The two names that we’ve heard for the list are Louis Leterrier and now Joss Whedon. Not only is Whedon a comic book fan and writer, he also has a lot of experience dealing with big casts with Firefly and SERENITY. He is an ideal candidate for THE AVENGERS, and could take it to the next level.

Since it is April Fools’ day, this should probably be taken with a grain of salt. I’m sure we’ll find out the truth in the next 24 hours, but if this news is true then Marvel is really using their noggins’ and really trying to make THE AVENGERS something very special.
