David Cronenberg’s EASTERN PROMISES was easily and by far one of the best films of 2007. Cronenberg and the film’s star Viggo Mortenson brought the pages of the script to life in such a realistic, heartbreaking, and beautiful way. Now they are going to dive into the Russian mob even deeper with a sequel.
Nothing is known about the project, plot wise, but we do know that the writer of the original Steve Knight has already written the script. The film is set up at Focus, who also released the original is hoping to get behind the camera sometime this winter.
Although the first film felt pretty stand-alone, if Cronenberg wants to do it then it shall not meet any contention. Since the original was so creative and well written, there is no doubt that they will be able to craft a story worthy of being a sequel. This is a film that is definitely on my radar, and will be watched every step of the way.
