FINAL ORBIT is a project that has been talked about for about two years now. So far, nothing has come from it (obviously), but it looks like now there is a real effort to get it off the ground. It seems that Producer Gale Anne Hurd (TERMINATOR, ALIENS) has a lot of faith in the project. She claims the film has “all of the classic cat-and-mouse, edge-of-your-seat elements to be a fantastic white-knuckle thriller.”
You can read the official synopsis after the jump!
Final Orbit tells the story of some lottery winners who are vacationing on the International Space Station but when it is damaged, the vacation becomes a nightmare, trapping the tourists alone in a crippled module with no astronauts to help them.
Sounds like a pretty interesting concept, as long as they don’t go the really obvious cheesy route.
John Moore will be directing the film – his filmography includes BEHIND ENEMY LINES, THE OMEN, and MAX PAYNE (ick!). I’m really hoping he brings more BEHIND ENEMY LINES and less MAX PAYNE into this, although MAX PAYNE’s problem wasn’t so much the filmmaking.
The story is based off the graphic novel of the same name, but information on the graphic novel is very hard to find. The upside to that though, is that there might be less complaints from fans about how it wasn’t faithful to the original. I hope they can pull this film off, it sounds like it could be pretty exciting.
