24 the movie has acquired a screenwriter

24 has been on the air for eight action packed seasons so far, and still brings in a very large audience. The real-time format of the show is such an intriguing idea for television, and really sets the show apart from the rest. As of now, the show isn’t signed for a ninth season and many are speculating the delay is because of the long rumored film adaptation. Many fans wonder if the hit show would transition well to film, Fox has hired a screenwriter to reassure them it would.

Fox has hired Billy Ray to write Jack Bauer’s big screen outing, fitting very snugly into Billy Ray’s filmography. It wouldn’t be his first time working on a twist filled suspense movies, he previously worked on the screenplay of STATE OF PLAY and he wrote and directed BREACH. From his previous experience, Billy Ray is a smart, capable choice for the job.

Fox did warn Variety about this news. Fox claims that the 24 adaptation “is still very much in the preliminary stages.” Fox won’t deny it is coming, they just aren’t sure when. They admits that “a number of factors influencing how quickly it moves ahead, including the fate of the TV show.”

The film is supposed to be a two hour representation of a day, which I think is a somewhat unnecessary direction to take the film. After eight seasons of the show all taking place in one day, I think it would be really interesting to Jack’s antics go past the 24 hour mark.

What do you guys think about the project?
