Last month I reported that Lionsgate had put in the highest bid for the rights to the TERMINATOR franchise. At the time, it seemed like it would end up being a sure thing and Lionsgate would be the new owner of the franchise. Sony made an unexpected move though, and put in a last minute bid.
Sony put their bid in yesterday, which just so happened to be the last day to bid. It is unclear whether Sony had planned this from the beginning or if they decided at the last minute. Because of Sony’s bid, there will be a live auction on Monday.
I have to be honest, I’d be happy with either studio getting the rights to the series. I haven’t been impressed with the TERMINATOR franchise in a very long time (I hear “Sarah Connor Chronicles” is good though). Let’s just hope if Sony gets it they don’t treat it like SPIDER-MAN, there’s no way they can reboot Schwarzenegger.
