I was so excited to hear that Ryan Reynolds was cast as Deadpool in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, only to be disappointed when he had very little screen time. I won’t even get into how much I hated the direction they took for the “Merc with a Mouth.” It looks like they want to get back on track with the DEADPOOL spin-off movie.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who recently wrote ZOMBIELAND, have been hired to write Deadpool’s feature. They also wrote an early draft of the VENOM spin-off movie. The film is supposed to stay close to the source material, and not the WOLVERINE version.
This was a smart pick on writers, as the sense of humor of ZOMBIELAND is pretty close to how DEADPOOL should be. He needs to be clever, witty, and outrageous. The final thing they need to really sell me on this movie is an R rating.
