Is ON STRANGER TIDES in unfamiliar water?

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES

The PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN series is a gold mine that both Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer aren’t ready to give up on. That would explain ON STRANGER TIDES, a fourth installment in the hit series that takes place after a very straight-forward closing point in the third film. After the success that the first one was, there was no doubt that sequels would come. ON STRANGER TIDES director Rob Marshall recently spoke about where the movie is in pre-production, and made many uncertain if the film will actually happen.

Check out what he said after the jump!

“We’re still trying to figure out if it’s going to all happen,” he continued. “If it happens–I think Johnny’s doing a movie with Angelina Jolie in the spring (that’s The Tourist)–so if it happens, we’ll start in the summer, and we’ll see. I’m excited. If it happens, it happens. I’d be thrilled. I just love Johnny and I’m excited about the genre.”

Marshall continued on to say that he hasn’t received a script yet, and that is what they are currently focusing on. The story in question is based off a novel by Tim Powers that shares the same title.

I am fairly certain the movie will happen eventually, but at this point I feel like there might be a delay or two. This movie has too much money-making potential to be killed outright. Maybe it is just me, but Johnny Depp has been doing a lot of mainstream stuff since the original PIRATES movie. Does anyone else think we are in need of a good ol’ fashioned Johnny Depp art house picture?
